Random Number Generator
A random number generator (RNG) is an algorithm, device, or computational process that generates a sequence of numbers that appear to be random. The numbers produced by an RNG can be either truly random or pseudorandom, depending on the method used to generate them.
True random number generators (TRNGs) rely on unpredictable physical processes, such as radioactive decay or electronic noise, to produce numbers that are genuinely random. These processes are typically considered nondeterministic, meaning they cannot be predicted or reproduced.
Pseudorandom number generators (PRNGs), on the other hand, use deterministic algorithms to generate numbers that only appear random.
